The Center for Teaching and Learning supports the professional development of graduate teaching assistants through the IUPUI TA Orientation and the Certificate in College Teaching program. The orientation and the certificate program are appropriate for all graduate teaching assistants, regardless of their official role (graders, recitation leaders, primary or lab instructors, etc.). For more information, please see the links below.
IUPUI TA Orientation
The CTL organizes the annual IUPUI TA Orientation, a one-day event intended to prepare first-time TAs to teach in the classroom or lab. The orientation also introduces TAs to important university policies and procedures and includes a Resource Fair where TAs can meet representatives from the various units and offices that support graduate and undergraduate student success on campus.
Certificate in College Teaching
The CTL's Certificate in College Teaching program (CCT) is for TAs who are interested in reflecting on and further developing their teaching skills in a systematic fashion. (The CCT is not a teacher licensing program, nor is it credit bearing. It will not appear on participants' transcripts but can and should be listed on their CVs.)
Other CTL Events and Services
In addition to the annual TA Orientation and the Certificate in College Teaching program, the Center for Teaching and Learning provides the following faculty services to IUPUI graduate students who teach:
- one-on-one teaching consultations
- classroom observations and student focus groups
- webinars and workshops on teaching topics
TAs interested in CTL workshops and events are encouraged to sign up for the CTL's weekly e-newsletter, CTL Happenings.
General Policy Resources for TAs
TAs need to be aware of both university- and department-level policies that impact their teaching. This list of university-level policy resources is intended to help TAs familiarize themselves with IUPUI policies. TAs should check with their departments and/or advisors for further policy information.
