Active Learning to Keep Students Engaged (Room UL 0110)

Active learning strategies increase students' motivation, develop higher-order thinking skills, and keep students engaged in learning. Strategies done well can make learning more inclusive and equitable. How have some instructors leveraged active learning in the classroom to keep students engaged?
Speed-Dating with Engaging Learning Technologies (Workshop at CTL and Faculty Crossing, Room UL 1125)
Join CTL IT consultants and other UITS staff in a fun, interactive event where you can learn about technology-specific tools and services offered through IU. In each 7 minute "speed date," you will learn about one tool or service before moving on to the next "date." If a tool piques your interest, you can sign up for a "second date" for a more in-depth discussion about your specific needs.
Resource Fair (5:30 - 6:10 p.m., lobby outside of Lilly Auditorium, Room UL 0130)
Come join us for food and beverages and meet representatives from 14 different offices, centers, and groups who support your work as teaching faculty! Your participation in the Resource Fair makes you eligible to enter a book drawing! (We've got a lot of good books about teaching and learning to give away, and we'll be giving them away at the end of the event.)

Engagement for Professional Well-Being and Student Success
A recent Gallup study showed that, "engaged faculty" who are "emotionally and psychological committed to their work and their workplace ... are critical for ensuring a high-quality student experience." If high levels of engagement are positive for students and faculty, what can we do as instructors to create meaningful engaged learning experiences that benefit our students as well as our own personal and professional well-being? Join us to discuss this question and to explore strategies that promote well-being in our lives and student success in our courses.

There are many ways to stay engaged as Associate Faculty at IUPUI, IUPUC, and at IU Fort Wayne. Some ways include assessing, refining, and exploring teaching approaches in your own courses, contributing to department conversations and efforts, to the conversations and efforts of your campus, serving as a bridge between academic and professional communities, mentoring your students, and many more. Two associate faculty members discuss how they stay engaged in their work as associate faculty.
Engaging Students on Zoom (Workshop in Room UL 0106)
Engaging students in a Zoom session might seem like a daunting task, but collaborative student learning activities can be adapted to Zoom if you understand how to take advantage of the tools that Zoom has to offer. You’ll leave this session with an understanding of how to set up tools like polls, whiteboards, breakout rooms and annotations – but that’s not all. We’ll talk about how these tools and other technologies can be used for student engagement while meeting in Zoom.
