Become a Mosaic Faculty Fellow

The Mosaic Faculty Fellows program provides an opportunity, over the course of a full academic year, for faculty to engage in active learning practices in their own teaching and with other Mosaic Fellows, as well as contribute towards the development of learning spaces across Indiana University. Putting Together a Course Portfolio

As IUPUI begins the process of reviewing general education courses over the coming academic year, faculty who teach these courses will want to be prepared to put together a course portfolio with the elements needed for the course review. This brown bag workshop will examine the rubric that will be used to review general education courses, the information and documents needed for the review, and the process for assembling a course portfolio as well as show two examples of course portfolios that have been put together to pilot the review process.

This webinar is designed to help faculty consider best practices for evaluating course effectiveness. Evaluation refers to the process of determining whether student learning objectives or course outcomes are met. We will address the following questions:

• How do you develop an evaluation plan?
• What is formative versus summative evaluation?
• What are common data collection techniques?
• What are acceptable data analysis procedures?
• How can you ensure that your results are reliable?
• What should you do with your findings?

The presenters will include examples of STEM Education Innovation and Research Institute (SEIRI) evaluation projects that will enable attendees to apply these questions to their teaching contexts.

In this webinar, the IUPUI CyberLab team will introduce their most recent invention, a life-long student ePortfolio tool, called CN Social Portfolio. This academic, social-networking based ePortfolio supports easy creation and distribution, empowering students to showcase their experience and achievements, get more engaged in their learning, and prepare for job applications.  

CN Social Portfolio is available to all IU students, and can be accessed through Canvas. This webinar will introduce unique features that the CN Social Portfolio offers (visual resume, badges and micro-certifications, student showcases, etc) and will present student ePortfolio examples.

VoiceThread is a tool for enhancing student engagement in online, hybrid, and face-to-face courses. With VoiceThread, instructors and/or students can create, share, and comment on a variety of file formats included PowerPoint, videos, and other types of media.

In this webinar, Kristen Needler, Clinical Assistant Professor, will showcase how she utilizes VoiceThread in her classroom to help students share and reflect upon their personal nursing practice. This session is intended for advanced to first-time users of VoiceThread as a general overview of the tool's functionality and integration with Canvas will also be included. Come learn about the innovative teaching fellow IU faculty are engaged in and how you may integrate VoiceThread into your own courses.

After a university-wide pilot, Top Hat has been selected as Indiana University's new student response system. TurningPoint Cloud will continue to be available for spring and summer terms, but will no longer be supported in fall 2017.  

Top Hat is an interactive, cloud-based teaching platform, which enables professors to actively engage students inside and outside the classroom with compelling content, tools and activities.  

Top Hat will be hosting a launch party with food and beverages provided. Drop in anytime to chat with the Top Hat representatives and enjoy refreshments.

Preparing for the Review of a General Education Course

As IUPUI begins the process of reviewing general education courses over the coming academic year, faculty who teach these courses will want to ensure that they are prepared to assemble a course portfolio for the review of their course. This workshop will review the process of aligning course student learning outcomes with IUPUI General Education Competency Domains, statewide competency domains and learning outcomes, and of designing and assessing their assignments in alignment with those outcomes. It also will examine the rubric that will be used to review general education courses, the information and documents needed for the review, and the process for assembling a course portfolio. Finally, two examples of course portfolios that have been put together to pilot the review process will be shown and discussed.

CanvasCon Coming to IUPUI

Participants will share best practices for teaching and learning with Canvas, discuss recent and upcoming enhancements, and network with other Canvas users.  The agenda is jam-packed with insights from educators, innovators, and thought leaders in both higher education and K-12.

CanvasCon is Monday, June 12, 2017, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., in the IUPUI Campus Center.  It is sponsored by Instructure, and co-hosted by UITS and the IU School of Education at IUPUI.  Registration is only $49 and includes breakfast, lunch, and the closing reception.  To register and more information, click here.
