Enhance Student Engagement by adding CN to your Oncourse or Canvas LMS

This 1.5 hour face-to-face workshop webinar will introduce you to CourseNetworking (or the CN), a social learning platform that is designed to enhance student engagement and connect them with other learners studying similar subjects worldwide. Features that support social learning and global learning (posts, polls, Social Portfolio, Anar Seed Reward System, Global Classmates, engagement analytics, the CN mobile app, etc.) will be demonstrated. Best ways to integrate the CN to Oncourse and Canvas as a complementary tool will also be explored. An experienced CN instructor will join the workshop/webinar to share his/her experience using the CN and tips for the best practices. A Q&A will be held at the end of the session to answer your questions.

As competition for external funding becomes more challenging, getting one’s scholarly work successfully published is more important than ever. Dr. Gopen’s approach is based on a single idea: learning to write for the reader allows the writer to control what readers learn.
This year, Dr. George Gopen will present this workshop on Tuesday, July 28. If you are planning to attend the advanced workshop on Wednesday, July 29 you MUST attend this workshop or have attended one in the years prior.

As in past years, Dr. Gopen will also conduct hour-long, individualized consultations. ONLY faculty members who participate in the day-long event will have access to the individual consultation registration. Instructions will be sent to participants after their registration for the workshop is complete.

About the Presenter
George D. Gopen is a Duke University Professor of the Practice of Rhetoric. He is also Senior Lecturing Fellow, Department of English and Senior Lecturing Fellow, School of Law. Professor Gopen received both his J.D. and his Ph.D. in English from Harvard University. Dr. Gopen is a pioneer in the mastery of scientific writing. His scientific clients have included the NIH, the FDA, Bristol-Myers Squib, Bayer, and Duke University School of Medicine.

Associate Faculty Teaching Forum

To promote the professional development of associate faculty (part-time/adjunct), the Center for Teaching and Learning holds an annual Associate Faculty Teaching Forum the beginning of fall semester. If you are a part-time faculty member, whether new or returning, you are invited to attend the Associate Faculty Teaching Forum, designed to support your teaching role at IUPUI. At this event, discuss with your peers teaching methodologies and classroom techniques, and new ways of using technology in the classroom and online. Forum tracks are designed to encourage discussion and the sharing of ideas between new and experienced instructors about teaching techniques and approaches.

This year the IU Northwest New Teaching Institute is open to all IU campuses and is calling for proposals for the 3rd annual conference. The New Teaching Institute is focused on transforming teaching, one new method, tool, or technology at a time. Sessions will vary and are appropriate for traditional, blended, and online teaching. Teach others how to do something, show off what you've done, or demonstrate a technique that's worked for you. If you're using Canvas, you can even propose a session about a specific tool or course design method in Canvas.
