In 2001, The Multicultural Classroom Resource Guide was developed as a resource to combat the disappointing persistence and graduation rates of African American and Latino/Hispanic students. With new sets of eyes and expertise, it continues to broaden its scope to as many populations and issues related to multiculturalism in higher education. The Multicultural Classroom Resource Guide contains a comprehensive bibliography of academic work related to inclusive teaching, diversity, and multicultural course transformation. In this Guide, the classroom is the literal space and figurative symbol of any learning experience. Therefore, resources can be found under the various classroom topics such as faculty, staff, curriculum, pedagogy, and organization or institutional efforts. Furthermore, you can explore articles and websites by author and keyword search as well as the categories of discipline and ethnic and cultural population.

It is important to note the ways in which the Guide interfaces with the other components of the Diversity and Learning website. First, the Guide is a great repository of research and practice that supports the positive impact of the various Teaching Techniques provided by faculty here at IUPUI. Second, the Guide complements the significant research cited throughout the Multicultural Teaching and Learning Module . Thus, the Guide is a collection of seminal and current literature that strengthens your own work toward course transformation. Also, the Guide balances and again supports the powerful first-person accounts of personal and professional journeys toward cultural awareness and cultural competence found in the Faculty Essays section.

For a glimpse at the earliest history of the Guide, read the letter from Nancy Chism, Associate Vice Chancellor for Professional Development and Associate Dean of the Faculties, which welcomes readers to the first version.

In order to keep this resource dynamic and current, participants are encouraged to share references that speak to issues of multiculturalism in the classroom. Articles can be submitted for inclusion in the Guide by clicking here . Submitted references are reviewed by the IUPUI Office for Professional Development prior to their being added to the database.
