This module is organized into two broad categories: 1) theories and concepts that shape the multicultural education dialogue today; and, 2) detailed examples and tips for putting the theories into teaching practice. Specifically, the module consists of eight sections, which can be navigated in any sequence:
- Introduction
- Multicultural Teaching and Learning Theory
- Instructional Strategies
- Assessment
- Classroom Dynamics
- Course Content
- Conclusion
- References
We encourage you to take time to thoughtfully reflect throughout this module. At various points, you will be prompted to reflect on how the concepts and ideas presented relate to your own teaching practice, personal values, assumptions, and philosophies. You will be given the option of emailing your reflections to your personal email for future reference.
Your own reflection may be the most educational and influential aspect of this module. Think of multiculturally transformed courses as a collection of prime travel destinations. While we can help paint an image of these desirable places, we are unable to prescribe in detail how you should get there. Your process of traveling to each of these sites will be unique to you, because your current location is uniquely yours. It is in the process of reflection that you can gain a clearer understanding of where you are and ultimately the paths you must take to reach your desired destinations. As stated earlier, it is our hope that this module acts like a collection of maps and guideposts to assist you on your journey.
