B.O.T.T. Series: New! Oncourse Assignments Beta

Assignments Beta is a new Oncourse tool that was previously only available for a small group of pilot testers. This tool is now in an open pilot and is available for anyone to use. Join us in this online workshop if you would like to get a quick look at the Assignments Beta tool to see if it might be a good fit for you. At the conclusion of the workshop attendees will have the opportunity to consult privately with a consultant from the CTL.
NOTE: This workshop is held online using Adobe Connect. You will need working speakers to hear the presenter. It is strongly recommended that you have a high-speed Internet connection to participate in this session. Multicultural Teaching and Learning Institute

How can faculty create an inclusive curriculum and a classroom environment supporting the success of all students? The Multicultural Teaching and Learning Institute (MTLI) addresses this issue.
Dr. Mathew Ouellett, Director of the Center for Teaching, University of Massachusetts Amherst, will kick off the event with his keynote address. Dr. Ouellett is the editor of the volume Teaching Inclusively: Resources for Course, Department and Institutional Change in Higher Education (2005) and the past president of both the Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education (POD) and the New England Faculty Development Consortium (NEFDC). The theme for this year's MTLI is When Gender Matters: Creating an Environment of Inclusivity for Women and Men, with the sessions exploring how we can best support African American males, women, and LGBT students.

Going Beyond Identifying Your PULs: Developing Learning Activities and Assessment
Facilitators: Debra Runshe, Jennifer Beasley, Mona Kheiry, Sarah Lang, and Terri Tarr; Center for Teaching and Learning
This hands-on workshop will provide a brief introduction to the PULs and give participants the opportunity to develop, refine, and get feedback on PUL activities and assessment for their course. Participants are expected to bring draft assignments to work on during the session.

Are you having trouble setting up your gradebook? Are students complaining that they are not able to see their grades online? Today’s students are beginning to expect to have up-to-date access to information regarding their grades. In this workshop we will go over the basics of the gradebook. Announcing the new B.O.T.T Series – Brief Online Technology Topics offered by the Center for Teaching and Learning
The Center for Teaching and Learning will offer a series of online workshops that will cover a variety of technology topics crucial to teaching and learning at IUPUI. The goal of the B.O.T.T. series is to encourage thoughtful use of technology and provide timely and convenient support for IUPUI faculty members.
The first four sessions will cover specific tools within Oncourse. Each session lasts 25 minutes, begins at 12:00 noon and occurs online via Adobe Connect. Attendees will have an opportunity to receive individual support at the end of each session. Attendees will need a reliable internet connection and a web browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox. No other software is required. The virtual workshop room's web address will be emailed to participants ahead of time. Visit the CTL events page to register.
CTL Awarded NSF Grant
The IUPUI, Center for Teaching Learning has received $97,989 from the National Science Foundation (DUE-0958168) to host a national workshop in Arlington, VA. The workshop participants will discuss the role of centers for teaching and learning (CTLs) in enhancing undergraduate engineering education. The event will bring together directors of CTLs, engineering faculty, and administrators of schools of engineering. The workshop will take place over two days with an agenda to outline strategies for partnerships between CTLs and schools of engineering to improve undergraduate engineering education. The Principal Investigator of the project is Dr. Pratibha Varma-Nelson, executive director and Co-PI is Dr. Terri Tarr the associate director. Adam Parker will be the web master for the project, Sharmin Kent will coordinate the workshop and and Dr. Jackie Singh will serve as the evaluator.
